TOEM 2 field guide
TOEM 2 characters
The traveler
You play the kind of lead the series is built on: a traveler with a camera, off on the biggest adventure yet a few years after the original story. A passion for discovering and photographing the mysterious events known as TOEMs is what spurs the trip.
Official pages give the traveler no name, no dialogue, and no fixed face — the character is defined by where you point the camera.
The traveler's silence is part of the design: official pages give the character no dialogue and no biography, which leaves the photos to do the talking. What the pages do fix is the premise — a few years after the original story, off on the biggest adventure yet, camera in hand.
The friends
The friends system is the closest thing to a cast. Along the way you make friends who can join you, and they impact your story and its ending.
That sentence from the official description is the full public picture as of September 30, 2026: friends join, friends matter to the ending, and no individual friend is named in official materials.
If a third-party list names specific friends, it is ahead of the official record — no friend has a published name, face, or role as of September 30, 2026. The mechanic is confirmed; the cast list is not.

Critters and the compendium
The world's creatures have a system of their own: the critter compendium, your expanding log of the fauna you meet, feeding the stamp progression alongside quests and discoveries.
The developer's monthly videos have leaned into the question on every player's mind — how many Bloops are in TOEM 2 — without publishing a number. The series' small round creatures are part of the picture; the count is not.
Logging a critter works like the rest of the journal: photograph what you meet, and the compendium grows. It feeds stamps the same way quests and discoveries do, which makes even casual creature-spotting part of the progression.
The people behind them
One cast official pages do name is the development team. Something We Made credits lucas gullbo (art and game direction), niklas mikkelsen (code and business), tom jerbo (code), Marcus Nilsson (audio design), 3D artists Elias Albrecht and Félix Roman, and composers LAUNCHABLE SOCKS and Jamal Green.
The official site's own summary is that the team is back together, including the composers — a reunion the studio calls the best part.
Does the original's cast return?
Official pages name no returning characters from the 2021 original. The story being set a few years later is the only bridge the official materials give, and the only confirmed reunion is behind the camera: the development team itself, back together including its composers.
When the cast grows
Named characters, if the developer introduces them, surface through the official channels first: the site, YouTube, Bluesky, and X. Until a name appears there, a character list anywhere else on the web is ahead of what has actually been confirmed.
